The Tiger is purely reactive, instinctive and dominating. It's techniques and methods are easily understood with not a lot of strategic thinking or planning and absolutely no preparation. The Tiger uses any simple and direct approach. It does not have the stamina, inclination or need for enduring and prolonged fights, hunts or teaching (cubs, other Tigers) activities. In any confrontation it leaps into attack going for the quick and direct resolution of the conflict. It has no evasion techniques, no blocking or defence. The Tiger does not need to defend, it is the ultimate predator. Dominating, controlling, powerful, frontal, larger than life, Tigers rely upon their size and the explosive force delivered by their short, thick muscles, clarity of mind, rightness and purity of spirit to achieve their needs and wants. Very simple, honest and direct, strategies and actions. Armed with deadly claws, sharp and strong jaws, the Tiger style is one of Simplicity, Directness and Power. The Tigers natural, easy fluidity hides it's ferocious power and dominance. It is the King of the Animals, King of the mountain. The Tiger relies on just its dominance for its supremacy while the Panther, lesser cats, all use a trick, like the lions have the lionesses heard their pray to them. It is from this realization that we can better understand the shear genius of Shaolin in naming two cats as the apex predators, as the apex kung fu styles. Whereas the lion belongs to the lesser great cats like the panther, puma, cheetah, jaguar, leopard, snow leopard, serval, etc. The Tiger represents the king of all land hunters, second to none. This is not a, 'mine is bigger than yours' type of thing, but to understand the ingenuity of Shaolin in placing two great cats at two of the five animals of Shaolin 5 Animal Kung Fu. Pound for pound, the Tiger (up to 660 lb, 300 kg) out-weighs and out sizes the Lion by almost 25% (500 lb, 230 kg). Some considered the lion as 'King' of the Animals, perpetuated by fairy tales and shows like the Lion King. Tiger Kung Fu (Hu Chuan) Master of Evasion Allow the Attacker to Defeat themselves.
